GRIT is an insurance focused spatial risk intelligence approach intended for underwriting and reinsurance decision-making within complex NatCat African environments.

 

It analyses terrain, substrate, development form, and infrastructure interaction to identify persistent exposure to damage. It flags persistent exposure to environmental loss, using stable spatial characteristics rather than event simulations or return periods.

 

The approach has been proven at proof-of-concept level and is designed to sit alongside catastrophe models.

 

GRIT supports aggregation analysis, claims interpretation, and portfolio sensitivity testing, while also revealing site-level variation within high-risk zones, helping insurers and reinsurers distinguish between blanket exclusions and defensible insurable exceptions.
